“E Komo Mai, Hanauma Bay”

This third commissioned image of Hawaii’s most famous beaches was specifically designed as an entrance feature for the compulsory viewing Visitor’s Center’s front door. Thus it is titled “E Komo Mai,” Welcome!  The image was separated into 4 vertical 6” high panels,  the zigs on an eight panel zig zag screen.  The zag panels tell you to not walk on the reef, to not feed the fish, how to preserve this natural aquarium you can actually swim in.  By depicting the dry scrub brush and the oxidized red dirt and hot stone foreground, the contrasting cool blues and turquoise of the water make the enticing bay look like an oasis.
