"Monster Mush"  Pupukea by Bill Braden

Located between "Kammieland" and "Rocky Point," "Monster Mush" is the comtemporary name for this surf break.  This work was the very first piece that was comssioned by the North Shore Community Land Trust in their/ our subsequently successful effort to purchase and then preserve the hillside of Pupukea Paumalu.  The original was gifted to the Obayashi Developement Company in Tokyo, who were the owners of the approximately 1,200 acres of the hillside, in an effort to get a friendly relationship started that eventually included the Trust for Public Lands, City and County of Honolulu, State of Hawaii, U.S. Federal Govenemnt, and even the U.S Army.  The hero of that story, Blake McElheny, and I paddled out to this spot to photograph and discuss this view.
