"Back in the Day, Lanikai"

Painted in 1982, this triptych is a hybrid of two previous triptychs painted on location.  The left panel's foreground coconut tree with the decayed frond and the right panel's still green but droop-ing foreground frond are from the very first Lanikai Triptych, and the background coconut trees are from our bestseller "High Tide" triptych.  This was a commissioned work for the company that had the tree-trimming contract for Oahu's roads.  It hung at Trees of Hawaii's Campbell Industrial Park offices for many years. The intensity of the blue green sea and the "in your face" fronds seem so daring now, many decades since.  Of course this was created way before our bestseller was published and somehow it all seems nostalgic now, hence the title.
